Friday Postcard: Bonito

Hi all,

The year has flown by. Recently when my buddy Damon asked if I´d be interested in going on a trip somewhere, I realized that I hadn´t been on a trip since returning from the US in January.

Now that it just wrong, to live in this beautiful country and not explore it.

Originally we planned on Manaus and the Amazon, but Damon did some research and it looks as if there are more adventure activities in Bonito, so we changed plans.

Bonito is in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which might translate literally as “Rough Countryside of the South”. Hmm, this sounds promising.

Bonito lies at the southern end of the Pantanal, which is somewhat similar to the Florida Everglades. A mix of wetlands and scrub, the pantanal harbors a wealth of flora and fauna. It is the base for many outdoor activities.

I plan to go diving. Beyond that, I am not sure. Usually I like to plan out my trips a bit more. This time, I am content to let Damon and his friend Hannes do the research. Tomorrow I will show up at Dantos Dumont airport, check my bag and my cares, and head off for adventure with Damon, Hannes, and Elvis. Pictures and stories to follow.

Meantime, here is a photo from the official Bonito tourism website, http://www.bonitobrazil.com.br/.
