Google has added street views to maps of Rio
Posted in Brazil Facts, News, Rio de Janeiro on 17. Jun, 2011
Hi all,
Not to sound like a dinosaur, but I am frequently amazed by the unstoppable progression of technology.
I received an e-mail my my good friend Greg this week. Greg is a convert. I brought him to Brazil years ago, and he fell in love with the place same as me. We returned together a couple of times, and then he started coming here on his own. Although he has not been down here in quite some time and needs to buy a ticket so we can go howl at the moon together once again – You hearin’ me, Greg?
Rio is Greg’s favorite city in Brazil. His e-mail was to let me know that Google has now added the street-level views to its maps. It’s pretty cool. If you’ve never been here, you can get a better idea of what Rio is like. If you have been here, you can reminisce and get all nostalgic. I suggest preparing a caipirinha first before surfing street view. (Vodka will do if you can’t find cachaça in your area. See video at upper right for mixing instructions. Video incidentally starring me and shot by Greg.)
To view street-level pictures of Rio, go to www.maps.google.com. Search on someplace in Rio. The map appears at right. If you click on a particular spot a balloon pops up. Click more in the balloon and street level displays as an option. Here is a street view near the Cardeal Arcoverde metro station in Copacabana. (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=ll)
If you are thinking seriously about making a trip down here, let me know and I’ll help you set it up. Maybe let you buy me an Itaipava at Posto 9.
Até mais, guys
John
