Podcast: Chat with Cristiano Nogueira about Rio de Janeiro

Hi all,

I had only been in Rio a couple of weeks when I was lucky enough to meet Critstiano Nogueira, the man who literally wrote the book on Rio. His guidebook, Rio for Partiers, has won lots of awards and is currently in its 8th edition. Pick up a copy and you’ll see why. It is packed with tips, how-tos, photos, and enough coupons to pay for the book several times over. Check out his site, www.RioForPartiers.com. You might be able to pick up a copy on Amazon.com. If not, you can buy one in bookstores when you arrive in Rio. Stuck? Send me an email at john@johninbrazil.org.

In this post, I am embedding an interview with Cris. It is my first podcast, so if you have comments or suggestions, be gentle. It was not an easy for this old dog to learn Audacity. (Tip: If options which you need are grayed out, click that square Stop button. Clicking Pause is not enough.) The interview is in MP3 format and is a bit under 13 minutes, and the file size is about 7.5 meg.

In the interview, Cris, who besides knowing Rio inside and out is just a super nice guy, mentions another of his sites, www.CookInRio.com.  Learn to cook (and make drinks) like a local. This is a great option for rainy days.

Here’s the interview. I hope that you enjoy it. If you’d like to hear more podcasts, please drop me a line with suggested topics.

Enjoyed the podcast with Cristiano. Are there any programs in Rio that would allow a visitor to have lunch, dinner, or even a cafezinho with fellow professionals…or just ordinary residents of Rio?

Are there also tutors or language schools that teach an intensive Portuguese course—two to four weeks of residential study for adults?

Third—what hostels would you recommend in Rio?

    Obrigado Joao!
